Day 2 - Rich Cabins
Our goal from the first morning was to wake up at 5 a.m., break down the campsite, eat breakfast and be on the trail by 6:30 a.m. This was done so that we could hike in the coolest part of the day, reach our next campsite later in the morning and relax before taking in the program offered at the camp. On this day, we headed back to the 4-wheel drive road from our campsite at Dean Cut-Off. We took this road north, crossed over 5 streams and crossed over the northern boundary of the Philmont Scout Ranch into an area known as the Valle Vidal. We were headed to Rich Cabins, famous many years ago for ranching. The theme of the program offered was Homesteading.
Crossing over the wire fence at the Philmont boundary and later, our "Porch Talk" at Rich Cabins.
We were treated to fresh oranges while the staffman explained the program that would be offered that evening.
We set up our campsite in the meadow down from the Rich Cabin and met an international crew set up nearby.
The program offered to us included a tour of the Rich Cabin, performing some chores in the farm yard, milking their cow, Chedder, and everybody's favorite activity, Chicken Chasing!

On to Day 3 on the Trail....
