Cooperstown Trip - Henderson Scout Reservation - Howe Caverns
On April 6, 20 Scouts and 7 Adults from the Troop drove the six hour journey to the Henderson Scout Reservation in the town of Maryland, NY. The camp is just 30 minutes from Cooperstown, to the North, and Howe Caverns is about one hour to the East. We had the entire Reservation to ourselves, along with the Ranger, Scott Brady, who we found sculpting wood with his chainsaw! The nights gets quite cold because the camp is located at the top of Crumhorn Mountain and at an elevation of 1800 feet.
This trip was our most ambitious campout of the year. We spent one day at Howe Caverns, then took the patrols shopping for food at a local Walmart Supercenter. The next day, we traveled to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, visited a dairy farm run by the sister of Mr. McCarthy, and had dinner out at Brook's, a very famous local restaurant specializing in B-B-Q Chicken. The next morning, we broke camp and headed home. All together, the Scouts earned 3 campout nights on their record.

Can you see the faces on the rock formation? Here's where we heard about the petrified mouse!
